Recruiting Information

The Basics

Ready to Take Your Game to the Next Level?

If you're serious about playing volleyball at the collegiate level, it’s time to maximize your exposure and ensure coaches are seeing your talent. The recruiting process is competitive, but with the right tools and strategy, you'll have a strong edge. Here’s the ultimate guide to getting noticed, from official recruiting platforms to social media tips:

1. Clearinghouse (NCAA Eligibility Center)

Before you even think about showcasing your skills, you must make sure you're academically eligible. The NCAA Eligibility Center (formerly Clearinghouse) is essential for athletes aiming for Division I, II, or III schools.

What it does:

  • Verifies your academic and amateur status for NCAA recruitment.
  • Coaches will not consider your profile until you're cleared by the Eligibility Center, so don’t delay!

Pro Tip: Start your registration early and keep your grades up. The recruiting process takes time, and the sooner you get cleared, the sooner you can focus on getting noticed for your athletic abilities.

2. University Athlete

University Athlete is THE platform college coaches use to find athletes, and it's your chance to stand out in front of the decision-makers.

What it does:

  • Showcase your profile, including stats, tournament results, and game highlights.
  • Coaches can search athletes by position, grade, location, and skill level, making it easier for them to find you.
  • Offers exposure to schools all over the country, from DI to DIII.

Pro Tip: Make sure your profile is complete and up-to-date! Add your latest tournament stats, game videos, and a personal bio. Coaches want to know who you are both on and off the court. Don't forget to opt into notifications so you never miss a message from a coach.

3. FieldLevel

FieldLevel is like a social network for athletes and coaches. But, it’s not just about making connections—it’s about building relationships that get you recruited.

What it does:

  • Coaches can search for athletes and view profiles that include skills, achievements, and videos.
  • You can get introduced to college coaches by your club (that’s us—Rush Volleyball Club!).
  • Coaches are actively looking for athletes that match their needs, so make sure to update your profile regularly.

Pro Tip: Connect your Rush Volleyball Club profile with FieldLevel for the best exposure. Coaches can search specifically for Rush players, and we’ll help you make the right connections. Plus, make sure to send coaches a personalized message or follow up after your matches—it shows initiative!

4. Social Media: Your Online Highlight Reel

Social media isn’t just for posting pictures of your weekend hangout—it’s a recruiting tool! Many college coaches search platforms like Instagram, Twitter, and YouTube to spot top talent. Here's how you can use them to boost your recruitment game:

Instagram

  • Post Highlights: Share clips from your games and highlight reels. Tag college programs or coaches that you’re interested in to catch their attention.
  • Use Hashtags: #volleyballrecruit, #collegevolleyball, #RushVolleyball—use relevant hashtags to increase discoverability.
  • Your Story: Engage with coaches by posting behind-the-scenes glimpses of your training, tournaments, or travels. Coaches love seeing the human side of an athlete.

Pro Tip: Create a recruitment-specific highlight reel on Instagram, where you only share your best clips, stats, and tournament footage. This makes it easier for coaches to find the info they’re looking for fast.

Twitter

  • Follow Coaches: Follow coaches from programs you’re interested in. They often tweet about recruitment events, and sometimes even share opportunities.
  • Tweet About Your Achievements: Tweet updates on your tournament performance, academic achievements, and goals. Always tag the program you’re targeting.
  • Hashtags: Like Instagram, use recruiting-related hashtags to increase visibility (#VolleyballRecruit, #Classof202X).

Pro Tip: Twitter is great for real-time engagement. Coaches are constantly on the platform and may retweet or comment on your posts if they see something they like.

YouTube

  • Post Full Match Videos: Upload match highlights or full game footage to YouTube—coaches love to see how you perform in real game situations.
  • Create a Recruitment Video: Edit a 2-3 minute highlight reel featuring your best plays, your skills in action, and a bit about you as an athlete (think: strengths, work ethic, and goals).

Pro Tip: Share your YouTube video link on your social profiles and in your recruiting platform profiles (like University Athlete or FieldLevel). It gives coaches easy access to see you in action.

5. Additional Tips to Boost Your Recruiting Profile

  • Stay Active: Engage on social media, update your profiles regularly, and keep your highlight reel fresh.
  • Be Proactive: Reach out to coaches. Don’t wait for them to come to you—start the conversation and express your interest in their program.
  • Stay Organized: Keep track of your recruiting deadlines, important dates, and any outreach from coaches so nothing slips through the cracks.
