How to Read Schedules
Volleyball tournament schedules can look confusing at first—but once you know the basics, they’re easy to follow. Here’s a quick guide for RUSH parents to understand where, when, and how your athlete will play.
1. Where to Find Your Schedule
We use three main platforms for tournament schedules:
AES (Advanced Event Systems)
- Website: www.advancedeventsystems.com
- Use for: Most major regional and national tournaments.
- What you’ll see:
- Your athlete’s team name.
- Wave Time (AM or PM start).
- Pool play and bracket play schedules.
- Tip: Matches may shift ahead or behind—always check updates the night before and morning of play.
SportsWrench
- Website: www.sportswrench.com
- Use for: Certain multi-day regional events.
- What you’ll see:
- Court location and opponent names.
- Live score updates.
- Tip: Use the “My Teams” feature to save your athlete’s team for instant updates.
TM2Sign
- Website: www.tm2sign.com
- Use for: Some invitational and local tournaments.
- What you’ll see:
- Your team’s match times and court assignments.
- Links to directions and event info.
- Tip: Check for any “Flow Charts” for playoff brackets.
2. Understanding Volleyball Schedule Terms
- Wave Times:
- AM Wave: Usually starts at 8:00 AM. Arrive an hour (7:00am) before the pool starts for warm-ups and team check-in.
- PM Wave: Usually starts around 3:00 PM. Arrive at 2:00pm.
- Pools: Groups of teams that play each other in round robin format.
- Crossover/Bracket Play: Matches after pool play that determine final standings.
- Work Team: Your team may be assigned to ref/score another match—these are mandatory. No RUSH athlete is allowed to leave the court until all assignments have been completed for the day.
3. Key Parent Tips
- Always re-check the schedule the night before—tournament directors can make changes late.
- Know your “work team” assignments so your athlete doesn’t miss them.
- Plan for matches to run early or late—build in flexibility. Also, some understanding goes a long way.
- Bring your own seating—many venues do not provide chairs, also be ready to not use them. Each venue is different and coaches will do their best to communicate ahead of time.
